| Woodley
Park
The Woodley Park neighborhood is bounded
roughly by Cathedral Avenue to the north, Rock Creek to
the east, 34th Street to the west, and Woodley Road and
Calvert Street to the south.
Largely undeveloped until the late 19th
Century, today this prominent neighborhood is home to
stately residences nestled along the curved streets that
were designed to correspond to the natural hilly topography
of the area. Local developer Harry Wardman was particularly
influential in Woodley Park’s current appearance
but one will notice an eclectic range of architectural
styles with distinct embellishments in both single family
residences and apartment buildings.
Grand hotels, busy restaurants and unique
shops line the primary commercial corridor of Connecticut
Avenue. The northern half of Connecticut Avenue, however,
is now mostly “high rise” apartments and condominiums.
The world renowned National Zoo anchors the neighborhood
to the north before crossing into adjacent neighborhood
Cleveland Park. Proximity to Rock Creek Park remains a
key draw for residents with its miles of parkland and
walking paths and quick vehicular access to downtown.
The neighborhood is served by the Woodley
Park – Zoo/Adams Morgan Red Line Metro station and
its central location is within walking distance of Kalorama,
Adams Morgan, and Cleveland Park.
